Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is drawn using your own blood. The growth factors from PRP helps to restore thinning or loss of hair. PRP injections can be effective in treating male and female pattern baldness, both in preventing hair loss and promoting new hair growth. PRP can also aid in the stimulation of hair growth after hair transplants. PRP injection is a low-risk procedure and does not usually cause major side effects. The procedure involves a blood draw from your arm then placed in a centrifuge to separate the blood and produce "liquid gold" platelets. PRP is then injected into the scalp where the magic will begin to happen. This procedure can take 45 minutes to an hour. After the procedure, you may experience some soreness and bruising at the injection site. Because PRP injections are made up of your own cells and plasma, the risk of an allergic reaction is much lower than with other injectable medications like corticosteroids. How soon should you see results PRP treatment? Although you will start to see improvement in hair texture, and thickness of hair shaft and growth of new hairs in the treated area within two weeks after treatment, optimal results can take three to six months from your initial treatment to see measurable results. Three to four treatments are recommended than twice or yearly appointments are recommended for continued hair follicle stimulation.
